Boys' choir from Herning Cathedral, Denmark
Reykholt Reykholtskirkja
The choir tours all over the world to help spread knowledge of choral singing. When 7 professional singers were assigned in 2020, Herning Church's Boys' Choir thus became only the second professional boys' choir in all of Scandinavia. The choir was founded in 1949, which makes it Denmark's third oldest boys' choir.
The history of the choir Herning Church's Boys' Choir is one of Denmark's oldest choirs and only one of two professional choirs in Scandinavia. The choir's history goes all the way back to 1949, when it was founded by the visionary organist Cort Cortsen, who had a vision to create a high-quality choir that could support the congregation's singing for church services modeled after the English choral tradition. In 1984, Mads Bille was assigned as conductor, and with him grew the ambitions to become a world choir that can help spread choral music throughout the world. In 1999, he founded Herning Sangskole, which later became Den Jutland Sangskole. Here the singers receive a professional musical education and develop their individual skills. In addition to focusing on the development of the choristers, there was a desire to renew church music traditions, and the choir therefore began in the 00s to create new music for the holidays. The first tours in Denmark and abroad really take off in the 00s, and the choir has performed all over most of the world. In 2020, English-born Charlotte Rowan will take over the conductor's baton.
