Accommodation

Snorrastofa has accommodation with good research facilities for scholars and artists. Included in your stay is access to internet, library and facilities for work.

Priority is given to applicants working on projects related to Snorri Sturluson, medieval Iceland or the history and culture of Borgarfjörður.

Your application, which should be sent to Snorrastofa electronically or by post, should state the project you are working on as well as general information about yourself and the dates you wish for.

The apartment has a ground floor and a loft, 88,5m2  in total. The ground floor has a living room, kitchen area, a bedroom and a bathroom. The loft has facilities for two to work as well as a bed for one.

The apartment has all amenities; furniture, crockery, kitchen appliances, bedding and cleaning products. A washing machine can be found in the bathroom. Elsewhere in Snorrastofa’s building is the library and facilities for other visitors and Snorrastofa’s staff to work.

Studios in the old district school

There are two studio rooms in the old district school. Each of them sleeps two, has a bathroom and a small kitchenette. There is access to a bigger kitchen on the same floor, a living room with a TV and meeting rooms which can be used to work in.

Terms of lease

  1. Applicants
    Snorrastofa’s accommodation is intended for Icelandic and international scholars and artists. Priority is given to those working on translations and research on Snorri Sturluson, medieval Iceland and the history and culture of Borgarfjörður.
  2. Facilities
    The apartment has a ground floor and a loft, 88,5m2  in total. The ground floor has a living room, kitchen area, a bedroom and a bathroom. The loft has facilities for two to work as well as a bed for one. The apartment has all amenities; furniture, crockery, kitchen appliances, bedding and cleaning products.   3. Terms of lease The apartment shall not be leased for less than one week or more than three months at a time. The cost of hire includes heating, electricity and wireless internet. Hire cost according to the price list shall be paid in advance when ordered.  Sub-letting is not permitted.
  4. Applications
    Applications for accommodation in the apartment must be received by mail. The application should include general information about the applicant, the project the applicant is working on and what dates are wished for. The application should be sent either to the director of Snorrastofa or head of visitors’ reception.
  1. Living in the Snorrastofa building
    Guests should be mindful of other people working in the building and ensure there are no disturbances. The building should always be locked outside of office hours.
  2. Handing over of keys
    Guests should contact Snorrastofa’s office in good time so that a lease can be prepared and a time confirmed for the handing over of keys.
  3. Cleaning and hand-over Leaseholders and their guests shall take good care of the apartment and hand it over in the same state they find it. The kitchen shall be cleaned, including the fridge and cooker, and crockery put away. The bathroom shall be cleaned, furniture wiped down and floors cleaned. Bedding shall be removed and put in the bathtub along with towels and tea-towels. All rubbish shall be bagged up and put in the outside bins. Full bin bags shall not be left in the flat.  Pets are not allowed in the apartment. 
  4. Leaseholders’ liability
    Leaseholders are liable for all damages to facilities in the apartment caused by themselves or their guests during their stay.
